Tires

Lots of great info here and other forums. Cant give advice without knowing your use case. Also..tirerack com. What has your research shown u so far. As posed your question is unanswerable.

Subarus tend to like Continentals (soft sidewalls) for all aorund use...but (nearly) all of my Subarus have BF Goodrich (stiff sidewalls) on them and I wish that I put them on the others.

Piste mentioned the Tire Rack; their tire selector system works to give you a really good notion of what you may want, even if you don't buy from them.
But they are great to deal with, and they will dropship with new wheels if you want.

Worth noting that the reviewers have wildly different expectations from a tire. I wish that they had a better "uses" section. One example is the Pirelli P8, which got glowing reviews...and which is the only tire I ever returned to the tire place...same day. They absolutely sucked.

Can you be a little more specific about what sucked? Road noise? Lateral grip? Wet grip? Braking?
Did the tire shop accept a return, and a refund?
Yeah, I've had some tires I didn't like. I've got Pilot Sport 4S on the Beemer at the moment, they handle great, but I wasn't cautioned they have to come off before the temps stay below 40.

With limited enthusiasm, they rolled over onto the sidewalls. They were not excellent in wet...or dry. I went back to my goto tires and love them.

I tried Continentals on my GT and they to...aren't great. Part of making them feel smooth is soft sidewalls...Which I don't like.

Comparison from track time a week ago.

You did that with limited enthusiasm? Holy crap.
Put new rear rubber on a long ago VW Beetle, when the engine was still in the back. They about put me in weeds. Backwards.

Yes, but in fairness, it was a track day where the Treadwear # matters. Still, I expected a lot more from the Contis. Sidewalls don't offer the same grip. :)

Placard is a guide for the specific car and the tires it came with. Tires vary widely. I run lower PSI on harder sidewalls and vice versa. I like 35 cold on the BF Goodrich I've posted about a few times.

Useful to know changes ~1PSi every 10 degrees F, ambient changes or heat from use.

I've been fooling with tire pressures for 55 years; discovered my VW Beetles handled better with more air in the rears. I am thinking of bumping the pressure a little on the Subie, and I do compensate for cooler temps and pressures.
