Subaru stuck in AWD

Mario

Hello my friend has a 96 Legacy Brighton, with an automatic transmission.
This car remains in AWD regardless of whether or not the "fuse" is in or
out. The fuse is good, tested with a meter. Has anyone ever heard of this
problem? Is it a common problem? What is the solution? Thank you.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but isn't that the whole idea behind
Subaru AWD, that it's full time, all the time?

Your best bet for an answer online is NASIOC. If you're not a member,
I think you have to become one to post. Put your question in either
the 'Legacy' or 'Transmission/Driveline" forum, or maybe even
electrical. They have a huge archive, and a decent search utility as
well.

Not when you take out the fuse that is supposed to disable it. You do that for
a few reasons -- the big one being that you had a flat and are driving on the
"temporary use only" spare. I replaced that useless piece of cr*p with a full
service spare, and have been glad I did so on a couple of occasions when I had a
flat and was able to continue driving without having to cripple the car.
