Hello Everyone,

Greetings of the day.

I would like to know if anyone has an idea why the Subaru Forester's auto start sometimes fails when it stops at an intersection. What may be the reason? Please guide.

Thanks & Regards

If the AC is on that defeats it or the battey is low and several other reasons.
Autostop is best defeated altogether with an autostopeliminator.
Auto stop is really stupid and an ill conceived idea. Thankfully its days are now numbered and we should soon see its demise.

AutoStart has its' advocates, but the best approach is to either turn it off or install some workaround. Especially in traffic, the AutoStart causes multiple stop/start cycles which impose wear on the starter and battery and which do little, if anything, to either improve fuel economy or diminish tailgate emissions.

Check your owners manual - there is a myriad of conditions that affect Auto-Stop-Start - the manual for my 2024 Forester has a full 5 pages on it - pages 352 - 356.

In our experience, the engine must be pretty well warmed up before the AutoStopStart function will work.
