Subaru Boxer Diesel

Hello,

I am in the design phase of a motorcycle trike. I was looking through engines that would fit the design I want and came across a Subaru Boxer Diesel. Have no clue what models they came in, if they are even allowed in the United States or even if they are reliable. Would really love to build a diesel powered rig this time but need some Subaru owner insight on this engine please.
