Rear drive problem with 95 Outback (Grandwagon)

S

Stephen

My 2.5L 1995 Outback drives as if only 10% of the power is going to
the rear wheels. I spent an hour fighting the car off a black-sand
beach today...got towed out by another outback (very sad!).

I've checked that the FWD fuse in installed (and it is)...I'm thinking
its either the rear diff, or the automatic transmission?

Any ideas?

Thanks

That's the problem. The FWD fuse, when installed, *prevents* power from
ever being transferred to the rear wheels. You had 0% on the rear wheels
and 100% on the front wheels. One should have the FWD fuse installed
*only* when you intend there to be no power going to the rear wheels --
for example, when a smaller spare tire is in use on one of the rear wheels
after suffering a flat tire. Omitting the FWD fuse (the normal condition)
allows the vehicle to operate normally, with some power going to each end.
Pull that FWD fuse out and put it in a safe place where you'll find it for
those rare occasions when you really want it installed.

Manual transmission users don't have to worry about FWD fuses.

Apologies, I meant to say "The fuse isn't installed"....any more ideas?

bad clutch pack, bad duty solenoid 'C', bad TCU.
You need a mechanic I'm afraid.
