Hello,

My name is Crane and I am looking to buy an used Subaru Impreza AWD manual.
I tested driving three cars and the last one looks good with its interior and exterior and engine sound.
One question left is that the shifter knob vibrates when the engine is turned. I am not sure if it is normal for an AWD especially an 10-year old car. Any experience with this would be appreciated.
In addition, I would like to do a PPI. Any recommendation on a mechanics who is specialized in Subaru AWD in Mississauga or Burlington Ontario?
Thanks a lot for your response.

Regards,
Crane

I can tell you that all five of my 4rd gen and my 4th gen legacies send a lot of engine/drivetrain vibration through the shift knob.

All Subaru Imprezas are AWD. I would really have liked to find a manual transmission Forester - but they're so hard to find. I've had many manual transmission Subarus and I do recall vibration through the shift knob. Never thought much of it. What is a PPI?

Ok got it. Thank you! Probably AWD is like this as I never have this experience with all my four VW FWD manual cars.

Thank you for sharing. Yes, that's PPI. I think it is only for buying unused cars.

You're welcome and good idea getting the PPI! It seems VW and Subaru were holdouts with manual transmissions. At this point I don't know if a vehicle with one will be priced lower, or higher because they're becoming rare.

I tried three Impreza manual below 15000CAD and they are no good. Now I find one of 19000CAD and it is good.
But I have questions about the service history. The CarFax report shows every detailed service history, which is very good. The questions are:
1) most services are done in 3000Km and a few only less than 1000km.
2) There is no service record in the recent two years.
I am wondering what might be the case when the services are done so frequently in first 6 years with 42000km, but no record in recent over two years about 15000km.
Any idea or experiences with this?
Thanks a lot for sharing.

I had no problems with the manual in my 2009 Impreza. Traded for my Outback because the Impreza killed my back. Make sure you take an Impreza on a looong test drive. I think their target comfort zone is a 125# high school student's first car. I wish I could have gotten a manual in my 2015 Outback, but I've gotten used to the CVT after 139,000 miles and 10 years!

Thanks for sharing your experience. So far my feeling is ok. Probably it is because I am skinny. I tried Toyota Corolla as well and felt it's a little tight for me, especially the cabin between two front seats is a little high.
