Hello!
Basically what the title says. The check-engine light is on, here is the long version:

Hill Assist Check Engine light

Hey folks, hoping you can help us out. I have a 2017 subaru forester, I don't know the engine type but 8th letter of the VIN is C (If you need more info let me know, I think it's2.5 if that makes sense). We took it into a mechanic with great reviews because I failed an emissions test due to a cracked manifold. The mechanic replaced the manifold assembly and gaskets. He then told be that the wheel bearings were bad and I went to check and the car was indeed making weird noises. He then replaced rear brake rotors, pads, front wheel bearings, front control arms, front sway bar links, oxygen sensors, and catalyst converter.

We got the car back and my wife wanted to test it out. She ended up putting the automatic car in neutral while going about 40 mph. This caused the check engine light and hill start assist light to come on. We've brought it back in and cleared the codes a couple of times but we get the following codes: catalyst system efficiency below threshold, fuel volume regulator control circuit high, h02s heater resistance bank 1 sensor 2, air-assisted injector control performance, fuel rail pressure too low - engine cracking, fuel system leak-small leak detected, intake air temperature sensor.

We have no idea what happened or what we did to it. We checked the gas cap, detached the battery for a while before reconnecting it, cleaned the terminals on the battery, and replaced 7.5 fuses, and drove it around for multiple drive cycles. The mechanic insists that the codes are old stored codes and that we should drive it around as much as possible. It may be worth mentioning that the abs system occasionally acts up and turns off the passenger airbag. I know there was a recall on this problem but there are no current recalls on my car. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

TLDR: We spent over 5k on repairs and now the check engine and hill start assist lights are on and we don't know why.

You mention a Single-Event, that you "think" may have caused your present concern ; but that action is so innocent, as to indicate that you should also indicate all the other things that you/she did during that Drive ... !!!!!

Also, the "mechanic" that advised those repeated drive cycles "should" be able to do his job correctly ... unless there is also something wrong with the ECM .... ; or he does not have good Tools, or Correct Training to use them properly !

Another $10,000 would have been a good payment against a different Vehicle ..... !
