okay out there i have a question i picked up my 2024 forester touring in January 15 this all was well put i thought i would check the oil the following day, i do not know if its general practice for Subaru to overfill from the factory but it was i would say a good half a liter or more over the top max circle, took it to the dealer he says nothing to worry about so i just got my second oil change here yesterday and they overfilled by close to a liter, took it back and they drained it down to max level top circle on the dip stick, just wondering is this a common thing to overfill from factory, i don't mind slightly above maximum put a full liter is to much as far as I'm concerned has anyone else had this overfill from the factory ?

Yes ..I have a '23 sport and oil level was about half inch above full mark from factory...same after first oil change..service tech said over fill wasn't enough to worry about..I think these overfills might be due to a history of some year foresters using excessive oil..mine has not so far..

The dealership tends to do this to my 2022 Forester with every oil change. I am going to say something the next time I drop it off and if it continues, I will take it elsewhere. It doesn't leak or burn oil so it still has too much in it at time for the next oil change.

I've had 3 dealer oil changes so far and oil level overfilled each time..mentioned in customer satisfaction survey and nothing changed..I really think this is intentional due to excessive oil use in some model years..

It may be normal now due to likely oil usage, trying to keep them from running low. How overfilled? I overfill all of mine and have for years.

Dealer overfills about 3/4".. I keep telling them mine doesn't use oil but it falls on deaf ears..probably not hurting anything but it doesn't give the service dept a good look..

Fair enough. Probably not hurting anything. You could extend your changes a bit! :) 3/4" is likely 1/2-1 qt, depending on your dipstick. I think that most of mine are 1 qt from low to full.

I'm not a mechanic but have known a few very good ones. I was told long ago that over filling the crankcase on an American made " V " design engine tends to overwork the oil control ring (bottom ring set on the piston). This will contribute to the ring failing and seizing in the ring groove (usually in the compressed and not against the cylinder wall position). When that happens excessive oil gets where it doesn't belong and you'll soon be burning oil...

Not sure if this pertains to the horizontally opposed Suby engine but they put the full mark there for a reason. I always sneak up on the full mark and would rather be slightly under than over the mark.

But I'm old...
