2018 Outback. 2.5 engine. Mechanic overfilled Oil while doing oil change 6qts vs 5. Any possible problems?

Yep, if the oil is high enough to reach moving parts, it will froth and lead to serious problems. It can also work its way up via vacuum and saturate your air filter. Easiest thing to do is loosen the oil plug so it will ooze out until you have a quart in the drain pan.

1 quart high across the whole oil pan is nearly nothing. Many wiht engines that "use" oil run 1 qt high all of the time. i've never had an issue with extra oil in any of my Subarus. The specs just aren't that tight. Same with torque specs. The JDM manuals show a WIDE range whereas the USDM show only one number.

Subaru oil changed chart the 2018 about 5.1 qts mine it's a 2020 2.5 l it's about 4.4 qts the turbo get 2.4l it's 4.8 qt and the 2018 3.6l it's 6.9 qts from the SUBARU Chart oil changed the mechanic he is an idiot all it's on the internet should had check before put 6 qts in the engine I guess these day it's time it's money no time to check.

I drained the transmission (CVT) and added 5 more quarts to the engine (10 quarts), and ran it for a minute or two and the engine seems fine after I straightened it out. CVT on the other hand, not so happy.

I wonder during the minutes or two did you shift gears? for couple seconds on each gears and back to parking mode.

I don't think so. i just heard a grinding sound and that's what finally clued me in. Since then I changed the transmission with one that supposedly had in the 70's thousand miles. Thats a long story.

I’m confused. Did you change the engine oil or CVT fluid? I just had my CVT fluid on my 2021 Outback changed. Seems to run fine. Did you have CVT problems after the change?

It sounds like you didn't add cvt fluid to the cvt but doubled the oil in the engine. The cvt and engine don't share fluid/oil.

The CVT calls for a different sort of lube, and CVTs are strange critters. Articles I've read cite these transmissions for generating a lot of metal flakes/debris in the pan. The fluid/filter want changed on schedule, and maybe more.

I've heard of that happening several times, even at a vehicle shop. Hopefully the CVT is ok.

Yah, Thanks. I put a different tranny in it but its throwing the PO841 code now. Lots of warning lights on.
