I have been researching Subaru's and saw a video that said you should only get a Subaru built after 2014 due to the change in engine design to avoid the head gasket problem that was prevalent in earlier years. True? I do realize that no used car (regardless of manufacturer and year) is 100% reliable or a sure bet. Which Subaru would you recommend, and why?

I had a 2004 turbo that had no problems at all, up until I totaled it. No I have 2021non turbo and so far, so good. It sure is nice buying the cheaper gas instead of the premium stuff that the tubo needed.

I like my 400 and older best. my 2005 is nice (and turbo), but the new ones are just appliances. Electronic unfixable bugs. Transmissions dying bugs. Terrible seats. You can have all of them. I'll take my one and done (if it ever even fails) 2.5L head gasket issues, replace them with the metal set and never look back.

its true if you get a naturally aspirated one, the turbocharged versions didn't have the same head gasket issues. that being said ive had 3 high mileage imprezas now from the "danger zone" and never had any issues. i greatly prefer driving and working on the pre-2008 subies myself. i love my 05 impreza and 04 forester xt. if you live someplace where they salt the roads though honestly just get a newer one period
