Oil use question

My GF has a 2012 Forester that's been using oil, 1,200 miles per quart on her last trip. She took it to a dealer who told her they'd have to do an oil loss test before seeing if Subaru would offer any assistance with repairs, and the test starts with a very premature oil change. We have no idea what kind of help Subaru will offer if the engine needs the work performed under the class action lawsuit, what have others experienced here?
