I own a 2016 Subaru outback with automatic transmission.
I have noticed a few times already a noise coming from underneath the car like something is running. Car is parked, cold, and no key in ignition.

Welcome.
Did you open the hood and look for clues as to where the sound might have come from?

If the car is totally off and you're still hearing it, then it likely has to do with something other than the car itself.

When did you start noticing this?

It seems to be coming from the underneath the car in the back, not a mouse, it is like a small engine is humming. I have owned the car for only a few months, and heard it twice. Car is totally off.

I believe the noise has to do with the vapor leak detection system
Did some more research on it, turns out It`s the fuel pump doing a pressure test and is completely normal.

Located on the read end of most newer Subaru models.
