We just purchased a 2022 Sabaru Forester Touring model and are planning our first trip. I'm wondering if other owners have mounted Yakima or Thule cargo boxes on their foresters. I know about size restrictions however, I'm wondering about weight and wind noise. I have the factory bars (including cross bars). Does mounting a cargo carrier damage the cross bars? I know from past use of the Yakima cargo boxes that there are thin steel clamps that attach to the bars. I would think that they might damage the factory cross bars. Any feedback would be appreciated

I've got a cargo carrier on my 21 Forester and have no problems with it. I had the same carrier on my previous Forester an 06 and drove it from California to Kalesbell Mt and back. If anything it helped protect the car from a hail storm coming in to Cheyenne WY. That is, till I found an overpass to wait it out under.
