New 07' Impreza Wagon

H

houndman

Picked up the car yesterday. They said the brakes and clutch are OK.
Drove another before taking it, and it had a slighty firmer pedal, and
the clutch grabbed a bit higher. Since they said it was fine, I took
it, figuring I'D have to adjust things, If I could. Read you have to
go into the computer to open valves in the ABS to bleed the system.

Car was Really noisy on the road. I had driven it a good bit a few
days ago, and it wasn't loud. Maybe the different roads are the
reason, or maybe I had a window cracked open. Lots of New fangled
gizmos to learn how to use.

I live in a big Old city, in a small street, and trying to protect
the car from all the attacks. Cover I bought doesn't fit, so have to
find obne that does. This isn't my primary car. Just for some driving
fun.

Hi,
When my wife needed replacement run about, she narowed down to Impreza
Wagon and Suzuki SX4, both fully loaded. She dediced on Suzuki. My
family drives AWD vehicles always. For some reason she liked Suzuki
better. I had it undercoated which made the ride much quieter. City
driving gives ~10 Km/liter. B4, she had Mitsu mini wagon(LRV, 2.4L, AWD)

Dunno what tires shipped on your car, but my Kumhos are noticeably
quieter than the stock Bridgestones were.

have fun but be careful!

Have so many things to figure out, with all the new controls, ride,
and things, and I have limitations from an devistating injury, plus
I'm not getting any younger, but have a feeling the road surface could
have been the cause of the noise. Will think about undercoating.

It has the Bridgestones. I thought they all came with them.

I have felt that different ties on the different axles of cars
changed the steering and handling, and thought about it for some of
the things I have heard about Sube's, understeer and the rear coming
loose easily, but it mght be different on an AWD car. This weekend I
will give it a good test, in the daytime, where I can see the road
surface better. I was going over a bridge when I noticed it the most,
and coming back over it. I noticed there was road work being done.

Wagons are great. I have had a full sized one, and now have a sporty
one.

Being careful till I know the car, and what it can do, gradually.))

That's rubbish. you'd have to be pushing really really really hard for
that to happen.

You appear to be getting too much uninformed advice/comment from some
people who got it from their little ol granny who heard it 3rd hand from
someone else in the rest home :)

I've been in the rest home long enough to know who to believe when it
comes to things that go, boom chikie boom. Ozwald's hearing aide is
noisy, so can't go by what he says. Hannah hears voices, so can't go
by her. Mickey talks to himself, so he is out, but Rob. He used to
work for Henry, and he knows those Model T's inside out.

My '07 Forester came with color coordinated factory undercoating.
Have you crawled underneath and looked yet?

I've driven the impreza for a number of years. Number 1 contributor
of road noise I've found is transmission throught the rear wheel
wells into the "boot" area which is just another way of saying into
the passenger compartment. Love the car tho'..............Doc

Will have to find the source of the sound and deal with it. If it is
just some road surfaces, I could live with that.

Looked up recomended tire pressures and they were lower than in the
tires, so that is the first fix. Will see what that does.

Yea, I know I'll love the car. It's what I wanted in size, body style
and all. I don't need much in transportation, and my old car was more
than enough, but I wasn't having enough FUN.)) I'm getting some
exercise for my damaged body from rowing the gears. Can't play tennis
now, and wanted an enjoyable way to get it. This is it.))

went Joy riding overnite, to log More hrs to get my Sube License. Got
radio stations set, and learned all the controls. The extra FM's I can
set is perfect. The tweeters I got will be needed, and maybe the bass
units I have.

I don't like the chugging at low speed. I guess it happenes so the
exhaust stays clean. Thinking being in a lower gear getting the revs
up might minimize that. My gear changing isn't smooth. Feels like the
clutch grabs fast. Maybe being AWD causes that. Developed a rattle/
squeak from the right front door. Sounds like the glass making it.

I went on a twisty road along a river, that I haven't driven in
Years. It has narrow dual lanes, and sheer rocks that come to the
roads edge. Only a few cars passed. I was cautious not knowing the
capabilities of the car or that familiar with the road now. Daytime
would have been better for seeing, but Much more traffic. On the way
home I took a road that has sharp decending turn that passes under a
train bridge, that can pull some G's. I wasn't checking the speedo,
but coming off an expressway, you usually enter it at speed, and it
was like nothing. I haven't felt any understeer in turns, so guess I
haven't gotten to it yet, and haven't been pussey footing. I guess
there is more capability.

Adjusting tire pressures, the ride is much more comfortable. The
ride seems a bit jiggly since. Maybe more pressure would cure that.
I'm getting a workout rowing the gears. I'm in a Big city with 4 way
stop signs at every intersection, and disabled from an injury that
damaged Every body system and muscles, and haven't driven a manual
since 85'. I didn't get a WRX wagon, because the firmer suspension
Beat Me Up..

The seats feel better than I believed, but the lumbar is either too
firm or too protruding. I bought a pair of Recaro seats out of an 85'
Mustang SVO I planned to try to put in the Sube. I was thinking they
might not be needed, but they have adjustable lumbar's, along with 2
thigh adjustments, so will have to give them a try.

My Sube adventure has been interesting for sure, including dealers
and salespeople.

Sounds like you are on a path to make the car an extension of yourself.
I hope it winds up being a good fit.
Have you considered trying a pad for your back? One co. I heard of that
has a good rep (and we may be buying a pad or two for my daughter who
has a very bad back at times) is Obus Forme'. http://tinyurl.com/2tkehs

Be careful with your new toy. Try some of the 'fun' stuff during the day
in a safe area away from the cliffsides!

The river drive is the best drive around here for some FUN driving.
Like a race driver learning the turns in a course, I'll get familiar
with it again. Daytime would have a Lot more traffic. Maybe Early AM
would be best. No problem judging the right side of the Sube, but
Can't see it. Raising the seat might help, or the bug deflector that
was delivered yesterday. I Don't plan to pull a James Dean on Dead
Man's Curve, since I don't like taking extreme risks, and know most
around here, and Don't know the Sube that well yet.

I think the SVO seats will be an improvement, and make the Sube Fit
better. It's not bad now, but could be better. About your daughter,
might want to look into Prolotherapy. Sugar injections, that feed,
rebuild and repair damaged ligaments and tendons that aren't holding
bones in place, allowing them to press on the nerves. I use Cayenne
Pepper plasters I make up, wetting the paper towel with saline. The
heat of the pepper draws blood to the site, and does the healing.
Capsacin is what makes peppers hot, and Capsacin P is a sports cream.
Salt is supposed to draw Lymph, and white cells, which can eat up any
debris, like torn muscle fibers.

Debating whether to make another nightime run in the Sube. Get
experience driving it in the city when traffic is light. Weekend is
for durnks, but most may be passed out by now.

Sounds good - watch out for semis - they sometimes try to get in after
the drunks are off the roads but before rush hour.
The daughter gets cortisone injections if the pain is severe. Dunno if I
could talk her and her mom into any alternative treatments. Capsaicin
though is an effective treatment and I'm glad it helps you.

As for the seats, you might try asking in the the Interior or maybe the
Motorsports forum at www.nasioc.com. Or find the website and email the
manufacturer. It might just be a question of different 'rails' on the
bottom of the seats to adapt to your sube.

Had a nice Early ride. Drove though the Intl Airport by mistake, and
that was a bit hairy, trying to read the signs and follow the road
through the terminal, then on to the interstate that I know, but not
coming out of the airport. Was a bit tired and that didn't help.

I figure between the Sube and Mustang tracks I should be able to
mount the seats. Would like to keep the seat raised, but the seats
have a big knob to work one of the thigh supports.

Are you saying Prolotherapy is an alternative treatment, or Cayenne
plasters? Prolo isn't well known, but I learned about it when my mom
and a few friends were cured of back pain with it, by an orthopedic
surgeon at a teaching hospital here in Philly, who Stopped cutting
when he found it. Mom had had pain for 20 yrs till it got unbearable.
A friend had it done after a botched surgery, and another after almost
falling from a 3 story high scaffold. Usually it will cure you
overnite.

I had my upper back and sciatica involved so had pain from my neck to
my foot, and couldn't walk more than 75' till my thigh would cramp up,
and the cayenne cured me in 20min. They are better and safer than
cortisone.

Before you rip out the seats make sure your side air bags aren't part
of them. Dig you get the heated seats? They do wonders for an achy
back. I'm having my lumbar facet nerves burned this Wednesday. Like
cortisone only it lasts for years as opposed to months.

When you find an empty parking lot with snow.. the hell with "gradually"!

Is that a Nerve Block? Prolotherapy feeds and rebuilds ligaments and
tendons and keeps bones off the nerves, holding the bones in place.

The SVO seats don't have heat, but that can be added. The Mid
Atlantic doesn't usually get that cold, and the seats are cloth. I
used to have a wagon with vinyl seats, and a hound who used to jump
into the drivers seat when I would leave them in the car. I complained
till it got cold, and the seats were nice and toasty when I got in,
and I didn't complain anymore.))
