Need to buy a new Hydraulic cam belt tensioner

UK 1996 Subaru Impreza 2000 Turbo.

Need to buy a new Hydraulic cam belt tensioned, on replacing the cam
belt we found the one fitted is leaking its fluid, anyone recommend
a supplier other that main dealer.

How bad is it leaking? If there is a little fluid, it is not necessarily
bad.

Leaking enough to make me change it, I don't think it is worth the risk of
the new belt slipping.

failing to change the belt tensioner is foolhardy--it's a hundred
bucks brand new. reusing them FREQUENTLY ends up in valve timing
jumping teeth. how much will that cost??

they're very finicky devices... get a new one!

By the way, how did you come to the decision (in the first instance)
that you needed a new tensioner ?

When I did my belt change, I followed the article at endwrench.com for
timing belt replacement. I noticed my tensioner leaked some fluid. (What
hydraulic unit doesn't?) I checked the torque reactions according to the
article that said it was fine. I'm sure it will last until my next belt
change.

Decided to change the cam belt as it had been 4 years since the last change,
we noticed the tensioner was leaking fluid, then my mechanics manual said to
check the distance from the body to the end of the hydraulic piston end, it
was at the lower level and suggested it should be changed. £115 or if it
failed £1500+ for a repair if the belt slipped, and as I am selling it
seemed the right thing to do, I know most people would not bother if they
were selling the car but at least I can honestly say that all is well with
the car.
