I've got a 2005 outback with a 2.5 non turbo & 4 EAT transmission. a few months ago I got rebuilt CV shaft assemblies from rock auto & installed them. A few weeks ago I had to replace the transmission as 380K miles on it and it gave up. I found another transmission out of a wrecked 3005 outback, non turbo. I installed it, but my CV shafts would not fit into the front differential. After doing a little research, I found some info about different spline counts on the inner stub shafts. I did some looking and the diff has female 23 spline, but the CV stub shafts are 25 spline male. Is this possible? What determines how many splines they had? I don;t think the shafts were wrong because they worked in the original 4EAT. So I need different CV shafts or can I get the stub ends off a 23 shaft and adapt them? If so, what years/models are the 23 spline shaft on?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
mike
