MY02 Impreza, O2 Sensor, best replacement?

L

A few days ago, the "check engine" light came on, then went out after a
day or so. The dealer read the code today, said something about the
front O2 sensor being slow to function. They said that, if the light
came on again, it would likely mean the sensor needed replacement, and
that a Subaru part would cost about $320 (Canadian).

Then, when I was driving home today, the light did come on again...:).

My question is, does anyone know if an aftermarket part is available
that will fit and work, for a lower price? Any experience with how
durable an aftermarket unit is?

Thanks for any info.

This should definitely be covered by your warranty,
shouldn't it? I wouldn't expect that to be outside of
warranty on a MY02.

Thanks for the response. I'll check, but with 74,000 km on the car, I
guess it is out of warranty. The dealer seemed to think so, in any case.

I guess it depends on what type of component it is.
There's the 3yr bumper to bumper (not sure of miles), 5
year powertrain (not sure of miles) and 10 (?) year
emissions components. Check into it for sure.

I checked my warranty, here in Canada it's only for three years or
60,000 km on the O2 sensors, so it's expired.

Anyone know of any aftermarket units that are cheaper and reliable?

O2 sensor is part of the emissions system and should be covered. Subaru has
had a O2 sensor recall on my 2000 Forester and other Subaru models and
years. eddie
