So I brought a subaru liberty GT Spec B4 Gen Auto AWD first owner of the car had all services done through subaru as the brought the vehicle new from subaru after the warranty followed by another mechanic with all proper services then from in the log book second owner took it to driven motor sport where they did two services on the car having rebuild the power steering where they also changed the oil from subaru engine oil to penrite pro extra 10w-40 engine oil then the third owner off the vehicle it went from 2019 till 2024 had no mechanic stamp saying it had been serviced the third owner also took the vehicle to driven motor sport 2024 had one service in 2024 then just before I brought it they took it there a second time where they were told the the engine needs to be rebuilt I learned of this when I rang up to book in a service I was shocked as this was not disclosed to me when purchasing the car im very happy with the car I've had no problems with it the car is good on fuel doesn't chew through any liquids im wondering if this driven motor sport is just trying to take me for a fool cuz im a girl so im wondering do I continue using the penrite pro extra 10W40 engine oil or do I go back to the manufacturer engine oil for my vehicle and what would that be. Thank you

There is plenty of information available to you on the internet for your car. Look for oil specifications as a place to start. I have never heard of the brand of oil you mention. Use the power of the internet to research this brand of oil. If it carries SAE designations and the correct temperature labels it is probably not an issue. If in doubt as to the veracity of the shop recommending engine rebuild - take it to another shop for a second opinion. Tell the second shop what the first shop said. Give as much detail as you have.

Is there any evidence of oil use or leakage? IE: are you having to add oil between changes? Once you have the information assembled - post the results here. Also, do you see blue smoke from the exhaust under acceleration? Do you see blue/white smoke as you let off the gas?

The biggest piece of trouble-shooting evidence you have provided is the fact that the car seems to be operating satisfactorily. I have a few female friends (platonic) who have stories to tell about the treatment they have received. Best one to date is a stripped oil drain plug that would require $800 for a new oil pan. She got it repaired with an oversized drain plug (self-tapping) for a little over $200.00 With labor rates over $100/hour and markup on parts this was a reasonable price when you factor in the oil change. Just remember a fisherman does not expect to catch all the fish. He only needs one to have a nice dinner.

If you do not have a mechanic you trust - ask your friends. They will guide you to a good shop. Let us know how this works out.

If you repost with some punctuation and paragraphs, I'll try to help. I have a GT-B import. I'm not sure what you're saying or asking.

The year of the vehicle is significant which wasn't specified. The engine could be an EJ25 or FB25 - different oil specifications. Sorry if I missed it but the post was somewhat difficult to read.

What's interesting about FB25 oil specifications is that in the U.S.A. 0w-20 oil is specified - but in other countries (I think the OP's is not in the U.S.A. being a Liberty) I've read the same engine has a different (heavier) oil specification.
