Low gear block?

Someone in the family knocked the gear shift into low gear on one of our older Subarus while on the highway and didn't notice anything for several miles.....(it's genetic b/c the step son does similar) so I cut a little block of wood and taped it into the slot of both of our cars. Problem solved.

However the 2025 has a 'cover/hood' around the shifter. Does anyone know what I'll find if I can remove the shifter cover? Will I be able to do what I did before? Suggestions?

I'm not worried about not having low gear. I haven't used it at all since 2017 and only used X-mode once just to see what it did. Our off road activity is limited to our 800 foot driveway and the parking lots at Killington.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure you have a CVT transmission now. No real gears as you're used to.
My car has a CVT transmission but it also has paddle shifters which I consider strange if not down right odd. Funny eyewash, if nothing else. Checking a box that isn't there, so to speak.

Yes it is a CVT (as were our others) but there is a 'low gear' position. We don't have the paddles.
