Does anyone have any info on the performance of this model, or have a good
website I can reference. I am also interested in knowing where this model
fits in the subaru family especially compared to the GT.

I've had a '95 250T wagon for nearly three years. What do you want to
know?

They're top of the line equipment-wise, with things in 1995 that didn't
make it to Subarus in e.g. the USA until very recently. So there's
"climate" aircon, pretty decent 8 speaker sound, infra-red remote,
keyless entry via PIN code, electric mirror adjustment + miror
defrosting + fold-in (for parking), electric windshield wiper defrost,
height-adjustable driver's seat.

It's not a beast on the open road like the GTs are, but it'll hold it's
own against the GT in 1st and 2nd (2nd is good for about 110 km/h on the
auto). Around town I'd much rather have a 250T auto than a GT manual.
Apparently you're supposed to be able to do 0-100 times of around 6
seconds in a GT, but when I tried it I had trouble beating 10. But then
it was a friend's car and I didn't want to kill it by dropping the
clutch. My grandmother could do a tad over 8 seconds in a 250T. It's a
real rocket off the line at the traffic lights. The suspension isn't as
hard as in the GT, in fact it's quite soft in a straight line, but the
cornering doesn't seem to suffer too much.

How do you find it on longer drives with a bit of a load from passengers
/ baggage? ..and how thirsty is it? A mate has a '96 Grand Wagon, and is
often complaining about the fuel consumption, though the AC is always on.

We've got an HX Impreza at the moment, which is economic and nippy with
two, but more people and / or bags and you feel it.
I'd also like a little more cabin room on the longer trips.
It's a little underpowered for passing, and with our roads + traffic, I
prefer to get out and around as quickly as possible - within reason.

We've been looking at the GT/Bs and the 250Ts - and there's a B version
of the 250T too. Apart from the suspension, I don't know what the
difference is between the standard GT & GT/B.
Also had a glance at the Toyota Caldina GT-T and Mitsi Legnum VR4 wagons.
There's quite a range of ex-JPN late 90s sport wagons about in the
import yards at the moment.

I'm not in any hurry though, as the 91 octane is still ~1.20.9 NZD, and
96 is ~+5c/ltr.

Around town we get right around 10 l/100km (28.3 mpg). On a recent trip
from Auckland to Wellington with three adults and lots of luggage I got
8.7 l/100km (32.5 mpg) cruising at as close to 109 km/h as I could
manage.

That's on 96 fuel. It'll run on 91, but becomes so gutless (due to the
ignition being retarded I expect) that you wouldn't want to.

My AC is always on. In fact we pretty much set it to 21C when we bought
the car and haven't touched the controls since :)

I'm pretty happy with the fuel consumption. My previous car used just a
little less -- around 8.5 l/100km. That was a '91 Toyota Corona
liftback with a 2.0 engine and 5 speed. The Subaru is much bigger,
heavier, more powerful, AWD, automatic -- all of which should cause it
to suck more gas. I'm surprised the difference is as little as 2 - 3
mpg.

anyone got any pix, or links to pix, of this 250T ???

I'm curious what it is, as I've never heard of it here in Australia

Here's a couple of shots of a '98 JPN domestic, older shape - I don't
work for the car yard etc etc, but have been looking :)

http://wcdwellington.goauto.net.nz/...All Models&o=vehicles.manufacturer&boolean=OR

The Japanese domestic Legacy models seem to have had a facelift sometime
in 96/97, with visible changes to the driving lights under the bumper.

The 250T is also available as a non-B version as well.

The import yards here are still charging a premium for the revised shape
that appeared towards the end of 98.

Looks like any mid 90's Legacy wagon (ok, there is a sedan, but 99% I've
seen are wagons).

Here's a couple of pics that incidentally show mine (sorry, grabs from a
video so not the best):

Nice. That's the same shape as my '95. Still my favorite overall Legacy
design, not because I own one, but because it has more of an agressive look
than the newer models. I do wish mine was a bit faster though. :)

It would.

That's on a very old map....... the "Flat"was dropped 20 to 30 years ago.

Microsoft MapPoint 2002. I have both the US and Europe versions, but
neither includes detailed maps of NZ (or Australia, or the Middle Eeast, or
Asia / Russia, or Africa, or Greenland...). According to their copyright
statement, the map data comes from an outfit called Navigation Technologies
and is copyrighted 2000.
