Is the cost of an extended warranty worth it?

Hi, I am taking delivery of my very first Subaru Forester next week (6/1/21). Should I purchase the extended warranty or is it a waste of money?

I don' think they are worth it. I have owned 5 Subarus; two that had over 100,000 miles and never had to spend significant amounts for repairs. Subaru makes a big deal about how reliable their cars are and how long they remain on the road, then the dealer tries real hard to sell an extended warranty after the sale.

I just bought a 2021 Outback Touring and at the start of the paperwork signing the paperwork clerk offered me an extended warranty for $3,200 when I declined she went with several other offers that I also declined. Just before I left she offered to reduce the extended warranty to $1,600 if I signed that day. I also declined the offer.
