2007 outback stopped charging as it should. 1 new alternator later same thing. i'd like to check the exciter wire if some one can tell me how .Getting ready to take it to a garage. any help appreciated.

Did you diagnose the charging system or just installed an alternator?

And the battery when disconnected from the car, and after a full charge then waiting 24 hours?

battery has stayed over 12 volts over a period of several days and has started the car several times battery 1 year old. with engine running 11.3 v across batt terminals

12.0 volts is a dead battery. They are 2.2v per each of 6 cells.
