I am not a Subaru owner any more ...

Hello all,

I recently got rid of my second Subaru. After 10 years of owning Subies:
'93 Legacy L, '02 Impreza 2.5 TS and '02 Outback, putting well over 300
miles on them (with my wife) I have to report I am done with them for at
least a while.

I had an opportunity to get '00 MB E320T 4Matic in very good condition,
low millage at good price I could not to not pass on. It is different
car, but MPG wise - on 89 octane fuel , 25 highway range and average
speed 55MPH I got 29.5 MPG - I figure I could never archive on neither
on my Subies.

Anyways I will enjoy MB and Subaru will have to come up with something
real convincing.

Best regards, Andy

I recently checked mileages on my '03 and wifes '08 Foresters and got
20-30 mph on highway. Locally we get 20-23 mpg. One son has an '08
AWD Mercedes requiring premium gas and gets 5 mpg less than us. For
price of Mercedes he could have got 2 Foresters.

I got 29 MPG on 1600 mile road trip last year in my 04 outback.

The best figure I got on '02 Outback MT was around 25MPG while back when
it was quite new.

Congrats on your new car. What kind of research did you do on the MB?

No - I have not done too much, besides I always liked them and wanted
one to try out :).

I got one for a little less then 10G, with 3/4 millage of my 120k miles
rearended Outback. And the insurance paid cash. So it is like half of a
Forester :).

K&n Filter , synthetic oil. Car was fully loaded With ~80k miles .
Automatic . cruise was set for 70mph most of the way.

That's pretty much the secret to getting good gas mileage -- set the
cruise. However, getting 29mpg @ 70mph is pretty impressive. I figured
you needed to be down around 60mph to get that kind of mileage.

I have a 94 Legacy with 203k miles on it and I typically get 25mpg in
town and 31mpg on highway. Seems ok to me. Dan

For what it's worth I routinely get 29-31mpg in my 2005 Impreza RS2.5
wagon on long freeway drives with the cruise set to around 73. The car
is usually loaded enough that I can feel it pretty well when
accelerating from a stop and the figures don't seem to change if I
have the A/C on.

For my daily commute grind, it's more like 24mpg.

97 Legacy here.
Just drove around 320 miles round trip this weekend. 29 MPG on the
way up, but 27.5 on the way back. I took a different route on the way
back and bypassed a few smaller towns and less construction so my
overall speed increased. Averaged about 60 MPH for the trip. No AC
was running so that saved a mile or two in the overall MPG?

Recently took the wife's 03 H6 OBW from texas to nevada and back. got
tanks ranging from 25.5 to 28 . 2 adults and some luggage/camping gear.
A/C on and often with the cruise on 75 for dozens of miles at a time.

not too bad

You should check out the new Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS GT. I think its
ugly, but that could have been right up your ally ;).

I could never sell my little blue subie!

FYI, the most mileage I've ever got on my 99 2.5 RS is 25mpgs... but I
drive my car really hard.

Subarus still appeal to me - maybe in a few years. In fact I like new
Imprezas. And I would probably be interested in the Outback provided it
is a little bit bigger and looking more robust like the gen2.

I for my part prefer a car that is robust before one that only looks
like it was.
Regarding size: this year it was the first holiday with our new
Outback and I was surprised how much baggage fits in. I had a BMW 5
touring before, and the car is definitely "bigger" (or should I say
"fatter"?) than the Outback, but I felt I had more space this year.
(I am speaking for 2 adults and a dog. Of course, the situation is
different when you have children, etc.)
