How to replace door panel speakers in 97 Legacy wagon

G

Gregory

I want to replace the OEM door panel speakers (front and rear) in my 97
Legacy wagon, but I can't figure out how to remove the plastic cover to
access the speakers. Do I have to remove the whole door panel?

Any other suggestions/gotchas about replacing speakers?

If it's like my '99, yes.

Here's how it worked on my '99, your milage may vary:

1. Pop off the plastic screw covers, big one
on the door grab, little one on door latch.

2. Remove the 2 philips screws underneath.

3. Remove plastic button near door hinge. Pry it
up with a flat blade screwdriver.

4. Starting at the bottom of door opposite of hinge,
pry door liner away from door until it pops loose.
Go around the bottom and sides of the door until
all the fasteners have popped loose.

5. This is the tricky part. Hold the door latch
open while carefully pushing the door liner up
to disengage it from the channel next to the
glass. Take your time and don't force it too
much. You may have to move it laterally as
well to get it out.

6. When the door liner comes free, unlatch and
disconnect the mirror/lock/window cables.
