Hi, new here, wondering about use of a non-dealer to service our cars and keep the warranty in effect.

We have a '24 Ascent and a '23 Outback (used/certified) and have had some concerns with service at the dealership where we bought both cars. What type of records must be kept when using an independent shop for maintaining our cars to keep the warranty in effect.

Don't know but I've used an very good independent shop to service my car. He very picky about doing things by the book. I don't know specifically but I'm sure its covered in the warrany wording. However, I'm no lawyer.

If you are concerned with the dealer's service, why would you suddenly trust what they tell you.

I think if you keep your receipts/records, your warranty will be in effect if you follow the maintenance requirements. I have happily used my trusted independent mechanic. (Even on my Solterra EV). I, too, have had problems with the dealer service department where I purchased, sad to say.

DP55412 is correct. However, I would add that you should use a ASE certified mechanic or shop.
