Hello everyone,
I’m posting on behalf of my son, who is currently serving in the U.S. Navy and stationed in Japan. He owns a 1999 Subaru Impreza SRX Wagon (GF8, EJ204, 5-speed) that he’ll be bringing back to the States soon.
He’s been told he needs an ECU with Subaru part number 22611AE462 (JECS label A18-000 DIW, often marked “A5”) but is having a hard time finding one, either new or used. He is having an idle issue only with the #1 cylinder and the shop in Japan has narrowed it do to most likely being the ECU or the wiring harness.
A few listings have come up for 22611AE463, and he’s heard that version may require a different wiring harness. Can anyone confirm if that’s true, or if the AE463 can be used as a direct replacement? Assuming we can find one.
I have included an image of the label on his current ECU and some details from his VIN plate in hopes that helps in this search.
If anyone has one available, knows a reputable source, or can suggest a reliable shop for repair or cloning, we’d really appreciate it. I’m posting this on his behalf since communication from Japan is sometimes limited.
Thank you all for supporting a fellow Subaru enthusiast (and sailor!) trying to keep his classic JDM wagon on the road. He really likes this car and is worried that it started acting up right before shipping it home.
Respectfully,
BigFatMikeL (posting for my son, currently serving overseas)
