I am the owner of Southeast Motors in CO. I recently took in trade a 2021 Outback Touring. The car only had 32k miles. When we did our initial inspection, we found that the head gasket was leaking. The car was still under the 5 yr. powertrain warranty, so we took it to our local Subaru dealer. The confirmed that the head gasket was indeed leaking, but they said that the previous customer hadn't completed the services on the car as was specified by Subaru. I contacted Subaru's Customer Advocacy and explained the situation to them and told them that I understood that there should have been better service on the car, but with only 32k miles the head gaskets should not have gone bad even with the lack of routine maintenance. I was trying to get some reimbursement from them to help cover some of the cost of this expensive repair. They basically just said "no" and have a nice day. I sell a lot of Subaru's and was very surprised that they didn't even want to try and goodwill any part of the repairs.

I had to replace the motor in my 2016 Liberty after the cam shaft teeth were worn. (The car had just ran out of warranty and had completed under 100K Kms). My mechanic uses all genuine Subaru parts and religiously logs everything in my logbooks. They (Subaru in Australia and Japan) were not having a bar of anything resembling customer service because I didn't have the car serviced by them - even though the cam shaft inside the motor is a non-servicable item. This was years ago but it still has a bad taste for me - this was my 3rd Subaru. My mechanic thought they might come to the party with some form of good will gesture - sadly no - I got nada and it cost me $5K.
