Hard Wire iPod to 2006 Legacy

Anyone know how to? Whats the back of the factory stereo look like? Any cd
changer input?

Which model Legacy.Does it have the integrated CD changer/climate
control?
If so, it is complicated. This is discussed widely on the LegacyGT.com
discussion board.

I think the easiest way is to use an in line FM modulator that plugs
into the OEM head units antennae. It needs adapter cables. The Subaru's
don't have aux.in plugs. If the headunit has the ability to control an
add on cd changer then the input plug for the changer can be used to
input the Ipod. Subarus have not been add on Ipod/MP3/Sat radio
friendly.

My XM is wired to the radio using an FM modulator and 2 adapter cables,
sold as a pair by Metra. But it is the 6 cd changer with integrated
climate(Legacy GT).My daughters Impreza RS is set up like mine and it
has the standard single cd headunit like yours.

Audiophiles say the fm mod setup is inferior to a direct in and they
are probably correct but I am not cursed by the audiophile bug so the
sound is plenty good to me.Much better then the broadcast FM mod that
is sold as a solution.

Cheers

I use one of those broadcast dealies, and I'd have to agree. How does
this FM mod setup work? Does it always take a particular channel?

The Fm modulator is installed behind the head unit. The line out from
the device(sat radio, mp3,ipod,etc) runs to an adapter cable, then to
the fm modulator. The signal leaves the modulator through another cable
adapter to the headunit. The cars antenna plugs into the fm modulator
as well. The modulator also supplies power to my xm radio but that is
specific to the XM unit. The fm mod unit has several frequencies which
can be changed to get the cleanest signal. The modulator also has a
shield to prevent frequency bleed over in areas whre there is a lot of
fm signals to interfere. Inmy community this isn't an issue but when I
drove to DC I couldn't use the broadcast fm modulator in my Roady@
because I couldn't find a free frequency..I leave the headunit set to
87.5 whenI use the XM. Additionally,I can use the set up to play an MP3
but just pulling the line out(headphone) plug from the xm and plugging
it into the mp3 headphone plug.It plays thru the radio just like the
XM.

I recommend professional installation unless you are comfortable
pulling out the radio. I'm not.

Cheers again
