Feul pump

Hi friends:

My apology if this has been discussed before.
My 2010 impreza 2.5i hb lost accleration this morning along with battery light, engine lights on, I shut down and restarted the engine, everything went back to normal.
The similar situation happened before: accleration and power steering lost, shut down and restarted engine, everything was ok.
I do have hard time to start the car (engine cranks but not start) occationally.
I have check battery, alternator, serpentine belts, all good. Do you think it is due to a bad feul pump??

Thank you so much for any advice.

I doubt it. A pump typically just stops working altogether but you could check into fuel filter, regulator etc. Those things have a much higher need for service or failure rate. I'd also scan it for stored fault codes.

It doesn't hurt to own a scanner, these days and the cost is very reasonable. Saves a lot of guess work too.

When the fuel pump went in my truck, that was that. I thought a fuel pump either runs or it doesn't. I don't understand 'lost acceleration' though, and losing power steering. Otherwise maintaining a constant speed wasn't affected? There's others here that are knowledgeable and can hopefully help.

I had similar prob on older Forester and it was a worn-out relay. For mine there were a few other relays of the same part number to swap with .. good luck

Nice when it's an easy fix like that, instead of the fuel pump! Nice when relays are interchangeable to test with. My truck's were, but no such luck that the relay was the trouble.
