Failure to start

J

Jim

This morning my 97 Legacy (2.2 liter engine) would not start for
about 4 or 5 cranks of the starter. It had plenty of turning power.
Then I tried pumping the gas a few times. After 4 or 5 more crankings
it started, and I had no further problems. Before today I very
intermittently experienced something less than instant starts, having
to turn the starter for a few seconds, but always starting up. Not
sure if these are connected. If the problem continues/recurs I'm just
wondering what the most likely cause is. I'm not mechanically
inclined, but seems like the cold start valve might cause this
problem. If so is it easily accessible/replaceable by one who usually
doesn't do mechanical repairs (me)? If not, what other causes might
be at fault.

TIA Jim

Plugs and wires O.K.? Can't pump the gas... you have fuel injection...
Don't hold your foot all the way down... it turns off the fuel injection
(for cleaning flooding)
type of gas (winter mix with that crap they put in it) , are you saying 4 or
5 tries or 4 or 5 turns of the engine?
