Hello everyone,

I recently bought a 2008 2.5i non-turbo sedan. I took it into a Subaru dealership yesterday to have routine maintenance done and check out a weird noise the exhaust is making. The mechanic says the catalytic converter broke and got pushed into the muffler. With that said they estimated $4000.00 to install a new exhaust system. I picked up my jaw and said oh wow that's a lot of money. Now, I am looking for an aftermarket exhaust system that is quiet and doesn't cost $4000.00 dollars.

I hope some of you have some recommendations.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

If you don’t have an o2 sensor code check engine light, I would say the cat is still working ok.
I would remove the muffler and see if it’s possible to get the so called broken part to come out.
If not maybe just replace the muffler.

Try to keep the original exhaust as long as you can. Replacement exhausts (atleast the standard steel ones) don’t last long.

Try getting a second opinion from a shop that specializes in exhausts.

If you are going to replace it get one that’s stainless steel.
