I have a new 2020 Forester and irregularly but frequently the engine stalls/hesitates when I have stopped (for light or sign, etc) and then start. .The engine sometimes stalls -most frequently this happens when I make a turn after a stop. It can be dangerous if a car is coming up on me. The engine keeps running bug just will not pull the car ahead. I thought it might be related to that damn start-stop option buts it happens if that is on or off.

Hesitation seems to be a common issue. If it's a second or less like in my Crosstrex it seems to be normal. If it's more than that perhaps there's folks smarter than me than has an answer/solution for you. I asked my dealer when we bought it new in 2015 and the response was " it's normal ".. When I drive it ( wifes car ) I just step on the gas harder than normal and I don't have a problem.

Thanks. May be normal but not acceptable as sometimes if turning or crossing a street after a stop on oncoming car or car behind me has to slow down. So far no close calls but only had the Forester a few months. Will be taking it in soo for this specific problem. If the dealer says normal I will say not acceptable.

Good luck, let us know how you make out. I haven't researched this lately nor have I heard from the dealer/manufacturer about a fix. Nothing on a recall as well. In the short term you may want to try a little more pedal push. If that doesn't work at all for you, it would seem logical the start/stop feature may be aggravating the existing condition. I think you'd find many many cases of hesitation with Subaru owners if one looks for them. The dealers obviously want to downplay the issue. That said, compared to your concerns, ours seems to be more of an annoyance than anything else at this point.

2020 would still be under warranty, so take it to the dealer and tell them to fix it! And I agree, even a 1 second hesitation is too long.

Thanks. I called and spoke to some specialist and he said the problem may be tapping the brake as well as accelerator. I am now trying to; pay attention to that and it may indeed be the problem. Apparently not much to do about that except change my driving habits a bit. But that does seem a problem with Subaru - I am old world: I would like to drive my car myself and not be at the mercy of a computer. But if that is the problem not much I can do about it. Warnings are fine but driving for me is not.
