Engine compatibility with 06 Legacy?

HI everyone,
I have a 2006 legacy 2.5l sohc with a bad engine. I can get a 2002 subaru outback with the 2.5l sohc; will this work on my 06 legacy without any modifications? I have heard that the block should be the same but almost everything else is different. Please help.
