Electric Parking Brake Problem

Hi, I have a 2015 Legacy with Electric Parking Brake and want to have the Rear Brakes done. Apparently, they normally have to put the Electric Parking Brake in maintenance mode so the piston on the caliper retracts when replacing the pads.. But, they said when they use Scanner to put parking brake in maintenance mode, the scanner says Can't Communicate with Electric Parking Brake Module.. I tried a scanner I have also, and get the same message...

Has anyone encountered this can't communicate with parking brake module or other module ? and if so what may have fixed it.

I have seen a Subaru procedure to replace the pads without using the scanner to put the parking brake in maintenance mode by turning the caliper piston when compressing it, but would like to know what may be causing the can't communicate with module...

Thanks..
P.S. can communicate with all the other modules, just not the Electric Parking Brake Module..

One possibility, the EPB module fuse or power feed might be blown or disconnected, so the scanner simply can’t establish communication. Also, wiring/corrosion problems in the module’s connector are a common weak point, especially in certain model years of 2015 Subaru Legacy.
