New to Subarus and boxer engines (at least automotive & liquid-cooled). I'm rebuilding a '96 Legacy GT DOHC. One of the head gaskets was leaking & it had #4 piston slap, but the cylinders were within spec & the bottom end was OK. The machine shop has honed the cylinders, planed the heads & polished the crankshaft. The timing belt & pulleys & water pump have less than 5,000 miles so I'm reusing them.

I want to make it run & be reliable but I'm not looking for any performance upgrades, just stock. I have several questions.

1. Is it necessary to replace the oil pump?
2. Should I use an assembly lube? If so, what?
3. What about break-in oil?
4. What's a good oil?

Thanks for the advice.
