I have a 2003 EJ2.5 short block all fresh. I just perched a 2008 impresa, five speed with a EJ2.52.5 with VVT. Has a big hole in it . Can I run the 2003 short Block? s Some one said you could but had to modify the oil pan real in the block Tap and drill a hole and some one else said the oil pump was different.

changing the whole? nothing bad can happen, pay attention to all the sensors, are they the same or interchangeable?

You can definitely use the 2003 EJ2.5 short block, but there are a few things to consider. The biggest challenge is the VVT (AVCS) on the 2008 engine. Your 2003 block wasn’t designed for it, so there are some oil passages that need to be modified. You might have to drill and tap a hole in the block for the oil feed, and yes, the oil pump could be different, so you’ll need to check compatibility or swap it. Also, pay attention to sensors and wiring, as the 2008 electronics are more advanced. It's doable, but make sure you're comfortable with the mods or consult someone who's done it before. It’s a bit of a project, but definitely not impossible!
