I have a 2020 Subaru Forester that was purchased as a used vehicle from a local Subaru dealer. I also purchased a bumper to bumper warranty for five years. I have talked with the dealer about installing a stop/start bypass and they say that they can't do it; that it violates California law. I researched what they said and it does not appear to be a violation of law. Furthermore, there seems to be some past litigation that was successful in arguing that a start/stop by-pass did not violate the warranty because it was not making stop/start inoperable. So...I'm either going to install the by-pass myself or have someone do it...but wanted some opinions from others on the warranty concern. I read my warranty and it says that any modification to the system may be an issue. It's just not very clear. I am also having an issue with changing the CVT fluid as the local dealer follows the Subaru America guideline that the CVT fluid is a "lifetime fluid" and, as such, the dealer won't change it out. So, I'm a bit upset as I'm convinced after doing considerable research that CVT fluid is not a "lifetime fluid". Besides, what do they mean by "lifetime"? The life of the transmission or ??? I firmly believe that the guidlines in place by Subaru America as to CVT fluid changes are wrong. All that said, I have a warranty the covers the CVT but worry that having a third party, reputable repair shop change out the fluid might create a warranty issue for me. Opinions and suggestions would be appreciated. I'm thinking about talking with the local dealer about all this as well. Given the potential costs of repairs for CVT related issues, I want to make sure I do the right thing.
