Do I need an adapter for an aftermarket oil temp sensor gauge?

Hi, I have a 2004 Impreza rs and I am going to install an oil temperature gauge and was wondering If I need an adapter to be get a reading, and where the best location is.

Might be an oil tap hole on the side of the block you can tap into. Unknown for sure.
Why are you concerned with oil temp?
