Dead(?) 2010 Subaru Impreza

Hi all,

I’m having an issue with my 2010 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport (146k mi) that has me pretty confused. I’m getting it checked out, but I’m hoping someone familiar with this can give me an idea of what to expect. Or if there’s any diagnosis I can do in the meantime

This has happened twice now: I come to a stop, and as I go to take off, every light on the dash comes on and I suddenly lose all controls steering, brakes, throttle, everything. The radio still works and the dash stays lit, but the car is basically dead. I’m about ready to call a tow truck when it happens, but if I turn the car off and restart it, all the lights clear and the car drives normally again.

for a more helpful not-ai-generated answer, to me it sounds like an idle problem. if youve had any codes cleared recently it could be going through an idle relearn cycle, ive had mine stall when slowing down to idle during one. or id say a fueling issue. if your engine light is on id definitely check and see which codes it's throwing. let us know if you fix it!
