Dashboard vents

Didn't get a reply the first time so... thought I'd try again....

On my 1993 outback wagon - when I move the ventilation control from
floor vents to
bilevel, very little air comes out of the center dash vents. If I move
the control from floor,
past bilevel to dash only, and back to bilevel, significantly more air
comes out of the center.
Is this normal?

I have seen this in other vehicles. Seems there may be backlash in the
control, or in the position of the damper.

I wouldn't say normal... it wouldn't bother me so I'd just ignore it. The
missus on the other hand would probably complain about it enough for me to
pull the cable out and reseat it (I'm sure that's all it needs) Did you by
chance have an aftermarket stereo installed or have anyone in that part of
the console doing any kind of maintenance? It's possible that they may have
knocked something off when they were in there.

Car was delivered new that way and of course it's still under warranty (although
the dealer says there's nothing wrong...)
