We just got a 2020 Forester as an upgrade from our '09 Forester. We want to put an aftermarket dash cam on her, but I know from RTFM that there is a big prohibited area because of the eyesight system. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to put one? Even better. Can anyone recommend a good one?

I would mount it in one of two places. One would be on the rear of the rear view mirror between the two eyesight cameras or down on the dash in the center. I used to know a good pick because I bought one for my wife but I've forgotten now which one it was. I actually got two, one for the front and another for the rear. I figured the rear was just to as if not more important than a forward looking camera.

That's where I would put it by choice, but the quick start manual showed that was a prohibited area for 3 other models. I'll look for a really small one to put behind the cameras. Thank Dick. That gives me some places to go.

I have a '20 Legacy Touring so your mileage may vary since only the Outback is comparable to it. That said, I have a Vantrue N4 3-channel dashcam. I love it!

I have it mounted permanently on the windshield low enough to be out of the Eyesight line of sight (see what I did there?) but also high enough so that I can't see most of it while driving. The out of my view mounting is due to Pennsylvania's law that a driver can't see a dashcam monitor while driving. I can see just enough to know that it's on for my satisfaction.

BTW, if you aren't afraid of getting hooked, I like watching "Wham Bam Dashcam" on YouTube for some hilarious and not so hilarious dashcam videos. Good luck!

The best place to mount a dash cam is higher up, you just need to be to the left or right of the eyesight cameras. I had mine mounted directly next to the right side about 0.25 inches from it.

A good investment if you are the sane driver.
I have logged over 2 million miles with no chargeable accidents as a commercial driver, but I have witnessed and have friends that have been in accidents, and the one at fault initially admits fault, and when the cops show up the story changes.

I have a 2013 CrossTrek and got the Red Tiger F7N model. Great images and it's small and compact. You can get it at Amazon.

I got the Rove R2-4K because it fit the budget better, but I wanted the Red Tiger F7n. I ordered the Rove yesterday (after they kicked the price up and then dropped it back down to what it had been) and I looked at the F7N right now and see the Prime Day dropped the price into my price range. Guess what just got ordered.
