Confusion around CPO and Gold Plus Extended Warranty

Hello everyone,

New Subaru owner here. Just purchased a CPO Crosstrek Wilderness a few weeks ago, and loving the car so far!

I do have a lot of confusion around the Gold Plus Warranty though on CPO vehicles, and wondering if anyone has any experience or thoughts. Basically, I purchased the Gold Plus Warranty at the time of purchase, however reading around the various sites, I feel like I overpaid spending approximately $3,000 on a 7 yr/100k plan with $100 deductible (my car had 11,500 miles at time of purchase).

I started shopping around and found a dealership willing to offer a better price at $2000, however when I asked my dealer if they'd be willing to match they said that the CPO extended warranty can only be sold by the dealership at the time of purchase as a wrap around plan.

The weird thing though is that my paperwork indicates the gold plus plan as a new plan, not a wrap around plan. The plan is not listed on the CPO paperwork, but instead as a completely separate agreement. I tried to clarify with Subaru of America, however got someone new who hadn't even heard of the wrap plan and had to ask a co-worker to even confirm it existed. They couldn't give me clear guidance on whether I could cancel and buy from another dealership.

Should I continue to press the issue further or are my only options either to keep the warranty or cancel or live with just the powertrain warranty? Also, this CPO extended warranty piece seems to be shrouded by some much confusion. Does anyone know if this information is documented anywhere to see the actual terms?

Thanks everyone!

What is a cpo warranty? I have bought genuine Subaru factory warranties...100k or 10 yrs for 2k. You can cancel anytime and get a prorated amount refunded as was the case when my car got totaled. If you have a genuine subaru warranty you probably can cancel it if just purchased it...or get a price match from the dealer that waaay overcharged (ie a partial refund) ... Or just cancel ... Get a prorated refund which would be pretty much 100% if you just bought it and then purchase it somewhere else... if in doubt call the Subaru warranty number. If you bought some kind of warranty offered by the dealer that is not Subaru... Like something that included oil changes keys service etc then...who knows.

Thanks for the information. I'm still within the 90 day window, and can still cancel for a full refund. Basically my understanding though is that when you buy a CPO, the gold plus warranty can only be purchased from the dealership where you bought the car and is sold as a wraparound plan. Basically wrapping around the 7 year/100K powertrain warranty that you get with the CPO.

I called Subaru, and initially they said I could cancel and buy elsewhere, and then I reiterated what the dealership had told me about it being on a CPO car, and they went back and checked and confirmed I could not buy it from another dealership.

That said, the person I spoke with was new and seemed a bit shaky, so maybe I'll try to call again.

Thanks!

Ahh.. well if you can buy a certified Subaru warranty I would think it would be from any dealership not just the one you bought the car from but I'm not sure
