CEL, Rough Idle, Smoke

Hello.
The CEL on my 04 WRX came on about a week ago. I brought it to my
Mech. right away and had it cleared.
Seemed to be a problem with The Mass Airflow Sensor. Easy enough
right. The problem was solved for about 30mins. The CEL came on again.
Knowing that the Mech. was closed I waited till the next day to bring
the car back. When I started the car the next day I noticed the rough
idle and CEL.... but also the car was blowing a lot of smoke and
constently trying to stall out on me. Once again the Mech. Cleared the
CEL and this time all of my Sensors had gone off, we just thought that
The MAS set off the rest of them. Since then it has gone off again and
I had replaced the MAS and the car seemed to run amazingly well for
the day. Later that night after the car had been sitting for a couple
of hours I tried it again and the CEL had come back on and the car was
once again idling rough blowing smoke and stalling. Does anyone have
any ideas what might be the problem. The car is totally stock.
Thanks

How about a new mechanic? Seriously it wouldn't hurt to get a second
opinion, these emissions related problems can be hard to diagnose, it could
be your replacement MAS is still not working, a malfunctioning o2 sensor,
faulty computer, blah blah. The error codes are notoriously vague and can't
always be trusted. Another mechanic with more experience might have more
insight.

Hmmm,
What was the DTC code? Code does not mean that is the source of trouble.
It's just a starting point for trouble shooting. If black smoke and
trying to stall, engine is WAY rich for a starter. Did you remove
battery cable to make the ECU relearn things from scratch? That's what I
do when replace a criticl component.
