Cannot find replacement cargo cover for 02 OBW

Deb

I have searched just about every Subaru parts company I can find
through Google, yet I cannot seem to find this very simple part. It's
the retractable cargo cover (like a window shade) for my luggage area.
The retractability has suddenly gone kablooey after 4 years and it's a
big pain in the butt having to fold this thing back manually to get to
my luggage. Any idea who might have one?

Check salvage/junk yards. Call em up, ask them if they have any of
the 2000-2004 models.... with a cargo cover in the color you seek.

My 2000 OBW just broke this past weekend. A loud pop and it wouldn't
retract anymore.

My initial search turned up this one,
http://subaru.autowebaccessories.com/store/prod181_182_1797.php , but I
haven't purchased anything yet.

Thanks, Dave. This is my fallback plan if I can't get it to work again
by taking it apart with a screwdriver.

1. Has anyone succeeded in repairing one of these?
2. Does anyone know of a Canadian (Calgary area) supplier?

Harvey

I did see one on Ebay once. I suspect your dealer could order one. The
link I posted before, is a dealer in the states that discounts Suabru
parts and I suspect they could ship onr to you in canada. A junk yard
may also be able to help you. To my knowledge, there is no aftermarket
part, dealer only. You could try asking at www.usmb.net and
www.nasioc.com to see if someone is parting out a wrecked vehicle.

Because even the discounted part is over $100, I am going to open mine
up with a screwdriver and see if I can fix it. If not, I'll order from
that previously posted source. I'll post my fix-attempt results here.

I did take the roller out of the bracket and found looks a roller blind. Do
not remember if I could get into the roller mechanism but will look again.

Hi Deb, All!

by taking it apart with a screwdriver.

I managed to repair one on an old GL wagon; the end of the spring had
either slipped free, or broken off where it was attached at one end.
Alas, it worked OK for awhile, then failed again :-(
It was a pain; probably worth the $100 for a replacement, if you
really need one.

I nearly posted before I read this one. Have you got a local curtain &
blind store? See if they can do anything with it. Probably cheaper than a
new part if they can & definitely less strife for you! I suspect that the
places I could suggest in Aus aren't much use to you ... Cheers

I opened up the entire cargo cover mechanism with a screwdriver. I
found no springs or anything in there that would have ever made it
retract. Then, I put it all back together again. Well, it still
doesn't retract, but it does cover my cargo. I can't bring myself to
spend $100+ for a new one, so I'm just learning to fold it multiple
times in order to get at my stuff. It's a real pain in the ass however.

Every few months check the wrecking yards - one may come in. Also, check
ebay - I have seen them there a coupla times.

Thanks, carl. I'll set up a standing search on ebay for it.
