Can anyone recommend a decent bumper protector? I am looking for
something that just sticks to the front bumper. It appears the people
who live in my city are incapable of backing up without using my car as
an indicator of when they should stop.

Thanks

Nothing that I've seen. This GD city (Montreal) has a lot of 'special'
drivers, doesn't it! I watched this idiot back-up right into my car at a
fairly good speed while I was sitting in the window of Tim Horton's just
across from Norman Bethune Park (Guy metro). When I rushed outside to
confront this idiot & said "why did you hit my car?" his reply (in his best
mid-East vernacular) was "I did nothing....nothing at all!!!!" with this
insulted look on his face. Blatant fuckin liar! When I told him that I was
sitting in front of the window and my girlfriend saw the same thing, again,
his reply was "I did not!!!!" & walked away. Let's face it, there's nothing
you can do to prevent this from happening, other than leaving your car at
home in the garage.

96 Legacy Brighton 200,000 kilometers.

I'm from Montreal also and have the same problem (have to park the car
alongside the sidewalk). Seen a Legacy with a neat rubber band (about 3
inches wide) glued all around front and back bumper. I suspect it's
"home made" but it was neatly installed. Also seen another Legacy with
something resembling a black rubber paint all over both bumpers. A more
sophisticated version of Gravel Gard? I also hope I finally find a
solution. Both corners of both bumpers are full of scractches.

It's amazing how people in this city have zero regard when it comes
to backing up into someone else's car.

I watched this 50 something guy try to parallel park his Pathfinder
on Mount Royal. He came in way too tight and rather then pull out and
try again he just tried to mend it.

He must have backed up into the car behind him about 5 times. Finally
after grinding his tires on the sidewalk he managed to get it parked
with 2cm in front of him and 4 feet behind him.

I walked out and said to him in "if you can't park it, don't drive
it". He promptly told me where to go.

That's OK because I watched his overweight gut walk into Beauty's.
He'll die soon enough.

I also watched a woman back her car up into someone else's and I
NEVER saw the brake lights come on. WHACK! She promptly put it in first
gear and drove off.

I stood there with my mouth wide open. Amazing.

Montreal is nothing unusual. From what I've seen, all inhabitants of
the glorious city called Chicago do it on daily basis. I've even
witnessed cars in front being _pushed_ in the bumper to make room
for another car. When I once remarked that this is going too
far, reply was cool "that's what bumbers are for, aren't they?".
Sigh.

and he walked away........... that's where a little bit of brake fluid on
his car's paint will remind him to be nicer next time and to own up to his
mistakes.
