best year to buy

Hello everyone,
I'm looking to buy a subaru outback and was said that 2005 or earlier is a good year. I'm looking for the turbo flavored 1. Does anyone know about this year and how reliable they are. Ive read they have head gasket issues and saw someone selling one with a head gasket issue. also is it possible or likely to find a diesel E33 option?

I hope there might be some responses for best year, I too am looking to buy an SUV. I am looking a various flavors, and getting priced out of Jeep XJ. Wonder what model and year to modify for more off road time. It's a 2nd car I seek and hope to trick it out, but really sad and slow responses on this forum, I am searching else where while hoping to get some feedback as well as you.
