On June 26, we were driving home in our 2024 Crosstrek with 14,026 miles. During the drive we noticed white smoke coming from under the hood upon our arrival home. Once parked and the engine turned off, I lifted the hood and noticed a lot of white smoke that smelled like burning oil. Upon further inspection, I noticed that there was oil spray that had landed on the drivers side wheel well and then noticed oil leaking dripping to the ground in fairly large pools. I contacted the Subaru dealer that we purchased the vehicle to inform them of the issue. The dealer is approximately 35 miles from our home. We and the Service Manager agreed that the vehicle should be towed, which it was the next morning. Upon arrival at the dealership, the Service Manager had a new vehicle waiting for us to use while our vehicle was diagnosed and repaired.
The initial inspection found the following: Spark plug tube seals were leaking oil on the drivers side which filled the spark plug tubes full of oil. The leak penetrated to the ignition coils and required their replacement as well. Also replaced Gasket Rocker Cover LH, and Gasket Rocker Cover No. 2. All repair work was completed under the 36 month warranty.
Two months later on 8/26/25, the dealership contacted us to say the Crosstrek was ready. We picked up on that day. While driving the 35 miles back home, we smelled something burning, which appears to be residual oil from the original oil leak. Not sure why there would be oil left if the area was cleaned after repair. Anyway, it smelled like a combination of oil and tar. Since it is the holiday weekend, I have to wait a couple of days before contacting the Service Department and possible return to the dealership. We are having a difficult time trusting the reliability of the car/dealership at this point. Will follow-up later.
The Service Manager and mechanic indicated that they have seen this issue before with the 2024 Forester and Crosstrek.
I am mentioning this issue as FYI.
