Anyone see the new Saab 9-2x? It's a WRX

I'm the same guy that posted that I was looking for a new car around $25K.
I just saw the new Saab 9-2x and the LA car show. It based on the WRX
platform. Check it out at http://www.saab.com. I like the front end alittle
better then the current WRX. It look nicer on the inside with the two-tone
leather. It only comes it the wagon but, it has a sunroof. Why can't you
get on the WRX wagon? I'm just waiting to see it at the dealer. It won't
be out till june. After that I will choose either the Saab or the Subaru.
Post what you think of the Saab. I would like to see what others think.

GM owns 20% of Fuji Heavy Industries, Subaru's maker. I wouldn't worry
about the sunroof on the WRX wagon, it'd just make the same amount of noise
it does on the rest of the line. A 250HP Legacy will be out in MY2005 and
most likely an STI version in the following years. As far as the Saab, i
wouldn't bother, its just trying to make Saab's more accessible to those
who love to buy them used, but at a cut in quality. I'd wait til the MY
2005's come out before you regret grabbing a MY2004 prior to test driving
an '05.

The new Saab has slightly better aesthetics in my mind. I like that
the side skirts are body colored the way Subaru should have made them.
Otherwise, the niceties are completely lost on me. I hate leather and
LOVE the seats on my 04. I also am glad the sunroof is not there on
my wagon because for once, I have ample headroom! The beauty of this
saab is that it is still a WRX but broadens out the offering to
include a more upscale clientele. What's funny is that Saab press
releases make it out like they designed the underpinnings/performance
of the car. Their extensive "research and development" finally
produced a world class performance car in the Saab lineup.

I was woundering why you can't get a sunroof in a WRX wagon?

because it isn't offered as an option ;-)

joking aside, it wasn't offered on the sedan until the 2004, and then only
as part of the premium package, where it really takes a big chunk of
headroom (so in that respect, it would probably do better in the wagon...) -
if enough people whine about it this year, I wouldn't be at all surprised to
see a premium package show up for the WRX wagon, too.

In any event - the WRX wagon is a pretty solid car - I wouldn't expect
anything less out of the Saab - only downside will be a higher pricetag.
(the 9-2x is a good thing for Saab - the tuners have already been working on
the EJ20T for years - so all the engine stuff is already out there - only
thing there won't be are cosmetic dressup stuff.

Is the 9-2x in dealerships already?

No, & I still haven't seen it! There wasn't anything on a "9-2x" on the Saab website.....

You can see it in person today if you live near Detroit. It is on
display at the auto show.

Hi Bryan!

Post what you think of the Saab. I would like to see what others think.

I wouldn't touch it, if for no other reason than the SAAB emblem. I've
heard _way_ too many "$$$aab $$$tories" from friends that've
loved/owned/hated them over the years :p
Were you to _give_ me one, I'd sell it and get a Soobie. (Or perhaps a
Miata; I already have a WRX wagon.)
My $.02, since you _did_ ask.

ByeBye! S.

I wouldn't be so fast to denigrate the 9-2. Its being built in Japan by
Subaru. The only Saab input is the interior and the paint color. Same
frame, drive components, etc., as a WRX.

Hummm...last time I got a different saab website. Guess their flash detector wasn't working properly.
Their pop-up window still gave me a "page cannot be displayed" error, but I've seen enough. The little pic is enough to make me choose the WRX!
