I own an '03 OBW which is the 'base' from which the Baja is (was -
discontinued next year) made.
Other than loosing the A/C refrigerant from some bad hoses - it's been
great.

You could also post at www.usmb.net and www.nasioc.com

I know an owner that loves his Baja. He does not do any unusual
hauling or off roading and has added a locking cover.

Personally, I would prefer an Outback or my Forester where I can more
easily stow my gear without worrying about theft from the open vehicle
or exposure to the elements.

Then there is the Baja tailgate extender which I think would not be
used 99% of the time and just takes up space in the closed bed.

I have an 03 Baja. Don't expect great mileage, it is built like a tank.
But having been in three accidents (none of them "at-fault"), I'd gladly
trade some mileage for safety. The reason I bought it in the first place
though is because it is built with maintenance and repairability in mind.

Not such great ,mileage huh?

I wonder how come?

I'm single so don't need the people hauling capacity of
an outback or forester

Not the best mileage because:
1. It isn't a small car.
2. It is built like a tank.
3. Subaru's engine technology might not be the greatest.

Regarding the discontinuance of the Baja, the scoobytruck website had this
entry:

"May 03, 2006 10:35:36 Baja still in limbo
I wrote to SOA asking if the Baja had ceased production and, if so, on
what date. Here is the response I got:

Thank you for taking the time to contact Subaru of America. We have
not
made an official announcement of the discontinuation of the Baja
model
line.

Sincerely,

John J. Mergen
Subaru of America"

For what it's worth, when I bought mine it 2003, 2004 was supposed
to be the last year.

as I have stated before, love my 05 Baja; had an 02 Outback, but the 05 Baja
is a much better vehicle; if you buy one get a turbo

Probably like most Subaru's it handles extremely well. I avoided a major
accident about two weeks ago. I drove the Baja into the media of a major
interstate here in NJ to avoid a head on collision. I ended up getting
sideswiped. The car/truck performed like a dream it turned where I wanted it
to go. Even on wet grass. I love it.
