Any way to stop the auto engine off other than hitting the switch every time you start the car?

This is only a suggestion and there are providers that offer multiple solutions for multiple manufacturers.

CAUTION:
Hire a Professional Technician to install this type of equipment. The bypass feature connects to the CAN (Controller Area Network) and it is NOT a toy to play with.
A Professional Technician will also test the integrity and communications of the network.
This bypass will affect your warranty - You have been warned.

Another test accomplished was with a trailer wiring harness installed and trailer light test adapter. The system will recognize that a trailer is being towed. A trailer light test adapter can be added to the existing trailer harness to "fool" the system..

Thanks for the info! Probably wait till I’m off warranty.

For a C note, yes. Pretty much plug and play. Look for it.
Side note: Get used to it. Every auto maker is doing it now for the emissions compliance. I can't say others have a simple relatively inexpensive work around, but at some point that may become illegal as well, Who knows, and I don't think is saves much, .08 gal per tank per my display and depending on stopping and conditions, but on a fleet level, it probably does.

I respectfully disagree about the professional technician. I installed one for a neighbor. You do need an 8mm socket wrench, you do need to be careful not to touch the eyesight cameras, and you do need to read and follow the directions. If that sounds like a problem, go with the technician.

Just tried this on a 2025 outback. At first it seemed like it worked, driving around the neighborhood and stopping alongside the road.. FFWD to today, and I went out to a few stores and by the 2nd store it was stopping the engine again. To make it worse, it seems to MORE aggresively (as compared to w/o it installed) turning it off where it was a borderline rolling stop (i.e. < 0.5 secs) and it stopped repeatedly. Or a casual slow down to a stop as you wait for the person to cross in front in a parking lot and it stopped.

I'll test it a bit more to see what's going on...HOWEVER..at least w/ the '25s, it doesn't seem to think it's towing.

Doing a little research, looks like the ASS feature is "smart enough" to not engage (i.e. stop the car) when the engine is still cold. That'd explain why the short trip around the subdivision made it seem like it was "working" to have the trailer harness w/ tester.

No bueno.

I picked up my '25 Outback last Thursday and the ASS is so annoying. I was happy to "find" where it can be disabled and was soo happy------that is until I started it up the next day and the same ol same ol. That feature can be permanently disabled on new GM vehicles. Another pain is that I can't keep the car running with air on for our dog and lock it like I could on my Equinoxes from the key fob. The fix I am using is turn car off-power lock all the doors-start vehicle-open driver door and manually lock. When I return, I need to pull the emergency key from the fob to open the door. Really user friendly for a company that recognizes pet owners- OTHERWISE, I love my new Outback.

It wiil come back every time you shut down and restart. Autostopeliminator is the easy and best out. A plus is you don't monkey around with the wiring or anything else. When you sell the car, unplug it and take it with and the car is 100% back to stock.

I got the following for my 2024 Forester (back in October of '23). So did my son on his 2023 Forester . Fuse box install, easy, done. Just defaults your start/stop to OFF when starting (SHOULD BE DEFAULT) . If you want to use it you can still press the button so functionality is still there.
